In a world where comic book companies have been making the transition to both the big and small screen, it’s no surprise that Marvel arguably may very well be at the top of it’s game. With recent small screen releases such as Daredevil and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, big screen releases such as The Avengers, Thor, Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, & Iron Man, and various upcoming releases on the big screen over the next 5 years, Marvel truly is leaving a major mark in the entertainment world.
Marvel’s most recent small screen release was Daredevil, a Netflix original web series based off of the original comic created by Stan Lee & Bill Everett. Daredevil follows native New Yorker, Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a child after coming in contact with a radioactive substance. As Matt grows older, he finds himself seeking revenge after his father is killed, and decides to take on the superhero alter ego of Daredevil. Daredevil was originally a comic that surfaced in the mid ’60s, but as of April 10th, 2015, it has officially made it’s way to the small screen of our desktops and laptops thanks to Netflix.
“It’s [Daredevil] amazing! It’s a type of dark and gritty that none of the other marvel movies and tv shows are. It takes a really interesting spin on the characters” stated Nick Rinaldi, a Frank Sinatra senior and avid marvel fan.
Not even 4 weeks after being released, the critically-acclaimed show has already been confirmed to be picked up for a second season by Netflix.
On top of the hit that Daredevil has been, Marvel recently geared up for their most recent big screen release, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Announced after the wild success of the first Avengers film, Age Of Ultron has been highly anticipated since May 2012. ComicBook.com has even confirmed that this sophomore film has already surpassed the first film’s presale on tickets and already has over 95% of the weekend’s ticket sales.
“It [Ultron] is AMAZING. You could tell that Marvel has had all of the connections and plot lines in the works for years and introduced new characters and was able to set up the plot for more upcoming movies, like the next avengers movie and black panther,” stated Nick. “ I think Marvel has total domination on the movie front. They keep making superhero movies that in the past were never well regarded and turning out great cinematic pieces. They are even taking characters and teams that should not do well as movies and making them into movies. I will see any Marvel movie or show that comes out in the near or far future. I’m excited to see what comes next.”
While there are many comic book companies out there making the transition to both the big and small screen, Marvel continues to prove that it’s truly a force to be reckoned with. Forbes.com said it best when they said that Marvel defines the modern superhero and that Marvel’s enthusiaum and confidence is apparent in their films. Marvel is at the top of the game and show no indication of slowing down anytime soon.
